The Northgate Winterguard program was formed in 2001 by Ginger Armstrong and Teresa Woods as a performing ensemble of the Northgate High School Band program. Performing a show to "Legacy" by Pierce Pettis, they competed in Novice class that year and finished 4th out of 26 competing groups at SCGC Championships.

In 2002, J.B. Gray joined the staff, and the group moved to Scholastic Regional A class. The 2002 program was "He Lives in You" by Lebo M. They were the WGI South Regional Champions in Scholastic Regional A class, and were promoted to Scholastic A. They finished the season as Scholastic A Champions at SCGC Championships, and were the recipients of the Golden Rule Award for best sportsmanship in the circuit.

In 2003, the guard performed to music from the Disney Millennium Celebration soundtrack. They finished in 5th place at the First Coast WGI Regional in Jacksonville, FL, and were the Silver Medalists at the WGI Carolina Regional. They finished 4th at SCGC Championships and were 16th at WGI Finals in Dayton, OH.

The 2004 season found the Northgate program rebuilding after the graduation of several longstanding members. We made a huge style change, as the show was all ABBA music and had crowds singing along and dancing in their seats at each show. The guard finished 7th at SCGC Championships and again received the Golden Rule Award for best sportsmanship in the circuit.

The 2005 season got off to a great start, with the guard competing in Independent A class for the first time. As the only group in this class strictly made up of high school students, the guard finished 2nd at the WGI Gainesville Regional and 5th in the WGI South Power Regional in Mobile, AL.  At SCGC Championships in Chattanooga, TN, the guard placed 3rd, receiving the bronze medal in their first year of competition in this class.

2006 was an exciting and fun season, with the guard allowing members from outside Northgate High School for the first time.  The addition of Sal Salas to our staff was a huge benefit for our program, and we had a GREAT time working with him throughout the season. The show was "The Girl in 14G", by Kristin Chenoweth, and was a crowd favorite everywhere the guard performed. The guard finished 4th in SCGC Championships in Chattanooga, TN.

2007 will bring a new and exciting direction to our program, as we take on a style we've not explored before. Those who have heard the music fell in love with it immediately, and cannot wait to get started on what promises to be an absolutely beautiful show. Check back through the season for updates on this very special year!!
